Company Challenges

High potential technical managers and professionals are clearly an important part of a company's success.

To keep them you need to groom them for growth and so they perform well in new challenging new roles.  This will make sure they are ready when they advance and ensure business, job and career success.

Here are some typical challenges:

  • Hi Po's can unrealistically think they are ready for advancement when they are not and threaten to leave the company if not advanced
  • Hi Po's that are promoted or given a stretch assignment without being ready are vulnerable in their first few months
  • HR Business Partners sometimes have trouble connecting with technical staff because of all the "techie" talk
  • Hi Po's often don't see HR as relevant to their career success
  • Hi Po's want to feel invested in and sending them to a class is not the personal attention they want
  • It is sometimes difficult for Hi Po's on their own to envision a technical career path without guidance from someone familiar with the specifics of technical career advancement paths
  • Hi Po's naturally overemphasize the "technical" side of things and need to be reoriented to see the impact of their actions on the organization and people side of things
  • Hi Po's will have to do things they have not done before in their career and the challenge can be too big and result in negative organization impact
  • Bosses and HR Business Partners often do not have the bandwidth to focus on Hi Po support as much as is needed
  • Hi Po's want on-going investment in their skills and career development which just as important as compensation to them
